Its fast, its dynamic, its aggressive...Its hockey!  Some say this nation-uniting sport is a way of life for Canadians – a religion might be a better analogy.  For a game that can be eye-wateringly violent, it has surprisingly high levels of participation amongst men, women and children.  A powerful slap shot can send the puck hurtling towards goal at speeds of over 100 miles per hour whilst the other memorable move, the bodycheck (cue sickening thud against the barrier) accounts for 86% of  (the frequent) injuries in this so-called collision sport.  In Canada, Saturday wouldn't be Saturday without ‘Hockey Night' – an institution that's reputed to be the world's oldest sports-related broadcast programme.
